This gemstone is primarily found along the northeastern coast of Madagascar, specifically in the Analalava District, near the village of Marovato.

The unique orbicular patterns are formed through a geological process called orbicularization, where mineral-rich fluids permeate volcanic ash and tuffs, creating concentric rings of color.
