After The Fool meets the Magician, and learns the lessons of applying action and mastering the use of our tools and gifts, the next character is THE HIGH PRIESTESS.

THE HIGH PRIESTESS is depicted as Female, because she is associated with receptivity, and mystery.  She teaches us that our intuition is our strongest source of direction in life.  

THE HIGH PRIESTESS is reflective, inward, and understands that things are not always what they appear.  She remains calm and unbothered by the flurry of activity around her, and is rooted in her subconscious.

The two pillars represent Her ability to stand between the two worlds, of the unconscious and conscious, and keep the mysteries.  

When the High Priestess shows up on our journey, it is time to stop listening to the outer world, it is time to be still, not to judge according to appearances, and listen to the small, quiet voice within.

Once we have fully learned the lessons of The High Priestess, we will meet our next female archetype on the Hero's Journey.... The EMPRESS.
