Introducing, The Tale of The Handless Maiden, as told by Crystal Goddess 888 on Halloween Night 2025. 🪓🙆‍♀️🤲🩸

This story was first published by the Brothers Grimm in early 1800’s, passed on to me by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and likely it is much, much older…. 

The Handless Maiden uses a lot of symbolism to portray the underworld journey that women have undertaken since the beginning of time.  

In olden times, older women would initiate younger women into these tales so that they could prepare themselves for the inevitable descent into the underworld that must take place in order for a women to grow and become whole.  

We are deciding to willingly venture into the underworld, in order to gain wisdom that will make us whole, and in fact more whole than when we began.  This is a tale of the forces at work within a woman’s life and psyche.  

At first we are often blindsided, because in our current culture we aren’t warned or initiated into these rites of passage into adulthood and wisdom.  This is also the case with the handless maiden.  It is scary at first, as she is plunged into this horror, and dismemberment, not of her creating, but as we descend further and further into the story, we will find clarity about how the inner workings of the mind can illuminate us on our path, if we understand the pieces and can see the mythology that lies underneath each woman’s journey.  

Men also can relate to the underworld journey, although theirs is not the same.  Women have a deep inner word, and the descent into this dark world is where we find creativity and purpose.  Men live more on the topside world, although the psyche is similar in both men and women, and all can benefit from hearing this tale.
